It is that time of year
when people all over the world gather together with loved ones to think back on
the previous year, share fellowship and food, exchange gifts, and enjoy the
holidays. But please remember the reason for the season. Meaningless
college football bowl games in nearly empty stadiums in shameless attempt to
make money for every person involved except the players!
Now many people don't
care about any games outside of the four team College Football Playoff. A few
may care about the other top ranked teams in the New Year's Day games.
Those people are doing it wrong. You don't know true sport happiness
unless you are enjoying midweek afternoon games between a mid-major school you
weren't aware played FBS football and a mediocre team from a power
conference. These are the true great games. These are the
best part of December, so in your face Santa Claus. I am here to show you how
to really each and every bowl game this year. So just follow along and you'll
reach full sports Nirvana.
It all kicks off with
the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl.
Who is playing:
This game features two non-division
one teams from Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The
champions of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) the 9-2 North Carolina
A & T Aggies will battle the champions of the Southwestern Athletic
Conference the 9-3 Alcorn State Braves.
How to watch: Saturday,
December 15th at noon on ABC. That's broadcast TV, baby!
Where: The Mercedes Benz
Superdome in Atlanta, Georgia.
Gambling info: NC AT -7.5, o/u 47.5
Why you should
watch: These teams are members of the Football Championship Division which
has a large playoff system to determine its champion. These conference
winners forego the opportunity to be National Champions to play in the Air
Force Reserve Celebration Bowl because winning this game is important to
them. Also the halftime show featuring the bands from each team will keep
the fans in the stands and away from the bathrooms and concession
stands.
It's time for the
AutoNation Cure Bowl.
Who is playing:
We have the Tulane Green
Wave who finished #3 in the Western division of Conference USA
With a record of
6-6, battling the Sun Belt West Champions Louisiana Ragin Cajuns who finished
the regular season with a 7-6 record.
How to Watch: Saturday,
December 15th, 1:30 on CBS Sports Network
Where: Camping World
Stadium in Orlando, Florida
Gambling info: Tulane
-3.5 o/u 59
Why to watch:
You need another reason
to watch Tulane's 94th ranked offense try to move the ball vs Louisiana’s 104th
ranked defense? How about the fact that the proceeds from this game go to
support Breast Cancer Research? Are you a monster? Unless you
like cancer, you need to watch this game.
It has lost its sponsor
but not its entertainment level. It's the New Mexico Bowl.
Who is playing:
The runner up in the
Conference USA West, the North Texas Mean Green, finished with a 9-3 record
battle the Mountain West-West Division runner up the Utah State Aggies who
ended the campaign with a 10-2 record.
How to watch: Saturday,
December 15th, 2pm on ESPN.
Where: Dreamstyle
Stadium Albuquerque, New Mexico
Gambling Info: Utah St
-9 o/u 67.5
Why to watch:
This is a good
game. The Utah State Aggies spent most of the last month ranked in the
polls until falling at Boise State in the final game of the regular
season. Utah State has lost their coach, Matt Wells, who is off to Texas
Tech next year, so it is always interesting to see if a team responds to show
their coach he shouldn't have left, or if they collapse from the disappointment
of a mentor leaving them behind. Don't be surprised if the Mean Green's
Seth Luttrel heads for greener pastures and more green in his paycheck after
this game.
Plus the New Mexico Bowl
is played in DreamStyle stadium! What is does that mean! Will the coaches
be in their underwear while trying to call plays? Will the ball carriers
wake up before they hit the ground? Is Freddy Krueger going to be
playing? Who knows? Only way to see what a Dreamstyle stadium looks
like is to tune in for every snap of the New Mexico Bowl.
Shuffle up and deal,
we're heading up to Sin City for the Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl.
Who is playing:
The 21st ranked and champions of the Mountain West, Fresno State Bulldogs
finished 11-2 vs the Arizona Sun Devils who completed their season in second
place in the PAC-12 South with a 7-5 record.
How to watch: Saturday
December 15th, 3:30 pm ABC
Where: Sam Boyd Stadium
in Whitney, Nevada a short 20 minute drive to Vegas Strip in your Mitsubishi.
Gambling info: Fresno
State -4.5 o/u
Why to
watch:
It's the first day of
amazing bowl action and we get a ranked team who is also a conference
champion. This a rare feat my friends. Enjoy this game. You
play to win the Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl, right Arizona Sun Devils
first year coach, Herm Edwards? You'll get tons of shots of the
Vegas casinos and can get some ideas on where to go to spend all the money you
make gambling on the Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl. Jeff Tedford has
turned Fresno State from a one win laughing stock into a conference champ in
two short years.
What's Raycom?
What's a Camellia? Find out with me as we watch the RayCom Media Camellia
Bowl.
Who is playing:
The Georgia Southern
Eagles finished 9-3 which earned a 3rd place finish in the Eastern division of
the Sunbelt Conference battle the second place team from the MAC West the
Eastern Michigan Eagles who finished 7-5. It's
an eagle off!!
How to watch:
Saturday, December 15th, 5:30pm ESPN
Where: Crampton
Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama
Betting info: EMU -3.5,
o/u 48
Why to watch:
I believe the most
intriguing reason to watch this game is to learn about Raycom Media.
Raycom is company that owns 65 TV stations all over the country. Why are
they sponsoring the game? Is it in case you also own a TV station and
want to sell it but didn't know which company was looking to buy TV stations?
The RayCom Media Camellia Bowl isn't even airing on a RayCom media owned
station. Also Camellia is a flower. You're Welcome. Please turn
into the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl and learn new things! Plus you get to
see some football.
Time to wrap up our
great day of football in the Big Easy, it's time for the R & L Carriers New
Orleans Bowl.
Who is playing?
The winners of the
Conference USA Eastern Division, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (8-5) will
meet the Sun Belt Champion Appalachian St Mountaineers (10-2).
How to watch: Saturday,
December 15th 9 pm ESPN.
Where: Mercedes-Benz
Super Dome in New Orleans, Louisiana. This is how you have a bowl a game
named after the city it is played in. Pay Attention Las Vegas Bowl.
Betting info: Appalachian
State -7 o/u 50.5
Why to watch:
Its other good low
division one team playing after their coach has taken a bigger paying
job. This time Scott Satterfield has bolted Appalachian State for
Louisville. Will the Sun Belt champs step it up against a talented small
southern program? You know you are going to get some Zydeco music coming
back from a commercial break and how often do you get to hear that? R & L
Carriers is a trucking company so hire R & L to bring in a new couch after
you have worn out your current one from watching football for over 12 straight
hours. In addition, if you don't watch this game, you won't have another bowl
game to watch until Tuesday night. You'll get the withdrawal shakes if
you miss the R & L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
