A Reason to Watch Every Bowl Game III: Christmas Chaos

It is that time of year when people all over the world will gather together with loved ones to think back on the previous year, share fellowship and food, exchange gifts, and enjoy the holidays.  But please remember the reason for the season.  Meaningless college football bowl games in nearly empty stadiums in shameless attempt to make money for every person involved except the players!

Now many people don't care about any games outside of the four team College Football Playoff. A few may care about the other top ranked teams in the New Year's Day games.  Those people are doing it wrong.  You don't know true sport happiness unless you are enjoying midweek afternoon games between a mid-major school you weren't aware played FBS football and a mediocre team from a power conference.   These are the true great games.  These are the best part of December, so in your face Santa Claus. I am here to show you how to really each and every bowl game this year. So just follow along and you'll reach full sports Nirvana.

You can read part one of this series at this link.  Part two is available here.

Need a last minute Christmas gift for your wife, check out the ads during the Jared Birmingham Bowl.

Who is playing: The leaders of the Western division of the American Athletic Conference the (8-5) Memphis Tigers take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons whose (6-6) record was mediocre enough to finish fifth the Atlantic Division of the ACC.

How to watch: Saturday, December 22, 2018, noon ESPN

Where:  Legion Field, Birmingham, Alabama, home of the UAB Blazers

Gambling info: Memphis -3.5 o/u 74

Why you should watch:  Darrell Henderson, running back for Memphis, has rushed for nearly 2,000 yards and 22 touchdowns this season.  The guy has been great.  This is a chance to check out this great player since Memphis doesn't take the main stage very often.  You have got to see this guy....wait what? Henderson isn't playing in the Jared Birmingham Bowl?  He has left school to prepare for the NFL draft?  Ummm.... Well it's football and it's on TV on a weekend afternoon, so watch it.

It's the military industrial complex but in a football game, it's the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl!

Who is playing: The independent Army Black Knights who finished (9-3) take on the Houston Cougars who finished second in AAC Western division with a (8-4) record.

How to watch: Saturday, December 22nd, 3:30 ESPN

Where?: Amon G. Carter Stadium, Fort Worth, Texas, home of the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs.

Gambling info: Army -5 o/u 60.5

Why you should watch: You need to watch this game to keep yourself safe.  Lockheed Martin makes bombs.  Big giant bombs.  I don't want to get on the bad side of them.  If you are feeling lucky, don't watch the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl featuring the slow plodding triple option of Army vs Houston and their third string freshman quarterback, Clayton Tune.  I'm not willing to take that chance. Lockheed Martin has made over 40 billion dollars of things to kill you this year alone.  They can blow you up real good.

They have over 15,000 stores in 45 states, but if you haven't heard of them, they sponsored a game, it's the Dollar General Bowl!

Who is playing: The Buffalo Bulls, who won the Eastern Division of the MAC at (10-3), are going to battle the Troy Trojans , the runner-up in the Sun Belt East with a (9-3) record.

How to watch: Saturday, December 22nd, 7:00 ESPN

Where: Ladd-Peebles Stadium, Mobile, Alabama home of the South Alabama Jaguars.

Gambling info: Buffalo -1.5 o/u 49.5

Why you should watch:  Buffalo's 6'7 quarterback junior Tyree Jackson, Jackson is ranked highly on some draft experts NFL draft boards.  He won MAC Offensive Player of the Year.  This is Troy's second trip to Mobile this season, as they defeated South Alabama earlier in the season.  Think of how relaxed the Trojans will be knowing that they already know where all TWENTY Mobile Dollar General Locations are.  The population of Mobile is 190,265 so that means that there is just one Dollar General for every just under 10,000 people in Mobile.  You know that now too.  You're Welcome.

It's the Christmas Eve tradition, but earlier this year, it's the SoFi Hawaii Bowl!

Who is playing:  The Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors who finished third in the Western Division of the Mountain West with an (8-5) record welcome the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs whose (7-5) record was good enough to finish third in the Conference USA West Division.

How to watch: Saturday, December 22nd, 10:30 ESPN

Where: Aloha Stadium, Aloha, Hawaii

Gambling Info: Hawaii -1, o/u 61.5

Why you should watch: It's a Western Athletic Conference Reunion!  The former WAC conference foes have risen from the ashes of the defunct WAC football conference. The teams were picked apart by other conferences in the money grabs of conference realignment a few years ago. They renew a rivalry that has laid dormant since 2011.  Hawaii has dominated the rivalry eight wins to two and is undefeated at home, (5-0).  That is a ten game history almost a decade old.  It's like Ohio State vs Michigan in bowl game. Can the Bulldogs exercise their WAC demons and finally put to ease their fans that they can get a win in Aloha Stadium?
